>>1972106>Business schools and their consequences are unironically going to topple the American empireJack Welch is the one that started the whole concept of sending manufacturing overseas and putting the shareholder above all. Literally everything wrong with modern capitalism in the US can be traced to his business practices that only look good if you're part of Wall Street. GE and other large American corporations used to pride themselves on paying their fair share of taxes and taking care of their local communities and developing talent and fostering loyalty. People legitimately would work at one corporation for their entire lives and retire comfortably with a pension and factories employed locals. And 3 of Welch's disciples went on to become the CEO of Boeing after the 1997 merger and started enacting the same principles that worked for Welch at GE at Boeing to "cut out the fat" as they call it. Managers at Boeing were all former engineers that progress up the ranks but after 1997 they were replaced by bean counter types to make sure the engineering departments didn't do anything too advanced that could hurt the stock price. The HQ of Boeing was moved to Chicago to further isolate engineering from the C-suiters and now it's moved to D.C. in a signal that Boeing is more interested in lobbying the US Government over doing actual engineering work. Funny enough, every company that's had Welch's plans enacted is basically dead; GE is a shell of its former self and had to split itself into three separate companies to survive and now we see Boeing in the midst of a decline and even saying they're not going to make a single new design for this entire decade. If Boeing continues on the course they're on then I can see them at some point going the way of GE and having to split themselves into multiple companies just to survive.
