I love when I discover a new shortcut. Roads with center medians have a gap where ever there is a rail crossing so they can provide a shortcut you can pull off on a bike but wouldn't be able to in a car.
From a park I can follow a foot path through the dirt over some culverts, take the service road behind a strip mall, and cross over to an alley at a rail crossing.
The road north of there isn't great to bike on approaching the intersection. Uphill, with drivers in all lanes.
