(1) Drop your seat low enough so you can put your feet flat on the ground. Sure, you'll lose some power, but it beats falling onto the pavement.
(2) The faster you go, the more stable your ride is. (Make sure you're in a lower gear when you start pedalling from being still.)
(3) Maybe put training wheels while you're still learning? After all, most kids learn how to ride with training wheels, and don't take them off until a few years later.
