H2 in transportation is a fever dream
>when electrolysed horribly inefficient compared to battery storage
>smallest molecule known to man, diffunds through tank walls, crazy explosive
>pain in the ass to transport and store compared to say natural gas
>makes H2 gas stops literally go boom
>bulk of consumer H2 is synthesized from fossil methane, because cheaper than electrolysis
>just build methane engines instead
>a H2 car has the tech a BEV has + all the H2 wankadoodle making it more complex and expensive. H2 car also needs a buffer traction battery
H2 will have it's place in industrial gas applications such as steel manufacturing, just not in transportation.
Personal vehicals will shift to BEV and fossils will kerp their place in apllications where BEVs aren't possible.
The H2 research effort should go into battery improvements instead.
