luckily not me but several riding buddies had grated their faces, lost some teeth and/or had they noses broken in very silly accidents while riding in a urban environment, not even fast.
to me, a downhill helmet is a bit too much fort the street but i wouldn't mind wearing a helmet with a fence or something for face protection, american football style.
