I do see that prices for a given tier of bikes are quite higher than they were 10 years ago, but whether they have risen sharply precisely over the last 6 years - no idea, I haven't been paying much attention to them during this timeframe.
By the way, to my surprise, the distinction between acceptable entry level bikes and BSOs has blurred. A decade ago, there were bikes in decent local bikeshops, and BSOs in supermarkets and sketchy bikeshops, and local internet shops were not much a thing and those that did sell bikes sold actual bikes they got from local distributors. Now, I see these half-bikes half-BSOs (like, aluminium frame + shimano gears + chink tin hubs, or worse) and pure BSOs in each and every local non-specialized internet shop and several recently emerged "bikeshops".
