>>1218183We have a lot of bicycle infrastructure but it’s not all pristine. It’s good enough for riding around on city bikes at moderate speeds but we’re not neccesarily a good place for road and track bikes. Often the cars get the perfect tarmac and the bikepath is pic related.
Also, having a few gears is nice when you have to ride through an open polder landscape to work with strong headwinds. People with single speeds sometimes have to get off and walk when it gets stormy.
