Bicycle components being made just for bicycles are a reason why some of them are so expensive. E.g: the hub body itself. Shimano's excuse for not using cartridge bearings is the exact reason why there are angular contact bearings.
>poorly sealedProbably because they're expected to have some external protection against dust, but then again, would it be too difficult to make a hub with a rubber dust cover that can be standardized across manufacturers? Just like you have for bottom brackets. Or even better, just pick an off the shelf part. Make a bicycle hub that uses bearings for 50cc motorcycles. Nah, gotta milk goyim until the last shekel drops.
