My first bike as an adult, once I had grown up and not rode for years. To me she was the best bike. As I was leaving the hospital and learned just how bad it was I kinda felt like crying. I slowly swapped out parts, turning her from a rusty flat bar beater slowly closer and closer into a proper road bike. Next on the agenda was a new wheelset, maybe a fork and 10 speed conversion and finally completed with a paint and decal restoration.
Once I'm able to ride again, I'm not even sure I will. Riding just won't be as fun anymore without my bike. Maybe I could replace or patch tubing but she'd only be fit for trips to the convenience store.
