Have any of you went though the process of diy stripping an aluminum frame raw?
The procedure I'm planning would be:
- Roughly sand the old paintwork
- Apply multiple rounds of paint stripper (Methylsulfoxide)
- Polish it with some aluminum polish
- Coat it with boat wax (for some protection)
So I'm thinking of not clear coating the frame and just protecting it somewhat with a hard wax coat. Of course it's gonna dull over time but I'd just re-polish it sometimes i guess.
Is this a shitty idea? Am I missing anything? Do I have to remove the headset cups and such or could i get away without? (I'd need to hack together some tools for that job)
Any input is aprreciated
