Mass IQ dilution through importation of third worlders, degradation of education to cater to lowest common denominators, and the institutions devoted to advancement being taken over by people with very different priorities. Dark Ages v2.0 are approaching, but after Renaissance v2.0 (assuming it comes) things should really kick off. We'll make it to space, but probably not for 500 years.
