Higher speed=more drag (unless talking about some variable sweep wing F-14 or something, but then lift is also affected). Therefore, a heavier plane would have a shorter glide distance because drag would keep slowing it below its optimal glide speed and it would have to nose down to get it back. I mean, how many gliders like pic related have you seen made out of depleted uranium because "lol, weight doesn't matter when gliding"?
