Truck transportation is much much faster, point to point and over magnitude easier to manage. Only advantage railroad has is undercutting them in shipping rates.
EU freight railways didn't developed since WWII they just haul their historic legacy of whatever they got from previous period and they are horrendously non efficient. Twice shipping rates and still covering 50% of teh costs via subsidies? Pleeeease.
