>>1876984burger here (w/ prior use of gondonas for skiing). i come for airplane autism and don't have car/bike-related anger, i like to lurk urban planning threads though
i travelled to ecuador in '21 and stayed in guayaquil (pop. 2.5m) the first couple of nights. the city isn't mountainous but the population centers are bisected by a large river. they installed a pretty nice gondola system over the river and continued it across the city center like a sky-tram (usually above the center of avenues, with stations every ~10 blocks). it was cheap, clean, and efficient with the obvious asterisk that for locals, it might be expensive. it's nice to never have to wait for a train to arrive, although i imagine that during rush hour the lines get long
>>1877190they were able to make 'em turn at about a 15-20 degree angle (which I've seen with chairlifts/gondolas at ski areas, too, albeit rarely). the turns are jarring but they didn't need too many since the towers mainly were aligned down the middle of ROWs or over open areas.
picrel. i didn't take any over the city center, but i'll post a stock photo hereafter. and if you're ever there, try the red crab, be nice to people, go to a soccer game, it's pretty interesting.
