>>1252215>>1252220Taking trains in Japan is unfortunately, not super convenient for cyclists. Unlike in the states where you just pay a little extra to bring your bike on the train, in Japan you have to disassemble it and put it in a special "rinko" bag. As much as I would have liked to take the train at some points of the trip, it was too much hassle and expense to get a bag, take the bike apart to fit, haul all my bags separately on the train, and pay for the trains themselves. Then again, they don't derail like amtrak trains, so it's probably worth it. Here's a pic of a Japanese tourist showing me his Panasonic breakaway frame, used to make train travel easier.
