Turns out the middle ring is worn to complete shit, can mash on the pedals in the granny ring and big ring but any amount of pedaling force on the middle ring makes it slip
I was wanting to just replace the chain rings but they are riveted on and drilling them out seems like a terrible idea according to the internet , a new square taper triple shouldn't be too costly
