Nationalizing Amtrak would make it more like other nations and would allow the unprofitable long routes to be subsided more effectively. The government could also purchase and construct new high speed track under their own plan.
Downside of this, muh capitalism freedom
OR, privatizing Amtrak completely, allowing them to stop running the unprofitable routes, well focusing on what they can make money from, aka only the short routes and the NEC.
Downside to this would be all of the poor towns that have no other from of transit except for an Amtrak Station.
