It's a good time to be alive. The end of this is clear: CAHSR completes to San Diego in 10-15 years and there is a push for HSR for the 500 miles between Sacramento and Eugene. In 20 years, you'll be able to board a train in San Jose and be in Canada or Mexico in 5 hours. You'll be able to board a train anywhere in CA and get almost anywhere else on the west coast.
First Shasta, then Donner. By the mid 2020s UTA expects to start electrifying trains, around the same time Colorado moves to do regional rail to Grand Rapids. By the mid 2030s there will be a serious push to electrify the remaining gap in Nevada, then Denver to Saint Louis where Illinois will have already powered up their lines.
