I push the pawl and engage the third position, and it will work for a while, but after many cycles, it will go back to only working up to second gear, and if you try advance past it, it will only go about a 1/4 past on the indicator, then bottom out. It was working when it went back on the bike and for a few days, then I came back out to do more work and it has that aforementioned issue.
I don't see any obvious breakages inside, seems like it will not advance to the third pawl if not pushed by a screwdriver, then it will engage and function normally until some usage after re installation.
It's 20 years old, I see similar models but what is the exact designation of this one?
