In Budapest, all metro lines were created mostly just replace tram lines. Therefore, the almost perfect tram network became disassembled, and later many parts were closed just because using them by the passengers became much more difficult.
As a matter of fact, while planning to make the fourth metro line, they closed line 44 and line 67 because the metro would replace them, but they never have built that part. And above the existing part, line 49 still operates.
