How important is the standover height other than just making sure that it isn't too tall? I've seen guidelines along the lines of "aim for 1 to 2 inches lower than your inseam height" (for hybrid bikes, that is), but is it really that much of an issue if it's more than 2 inches?
Pic related is 3 different hybrid bikes that are all in the "Medium" frame size (two bikes from Trek, one from Marin), but the standover height varies significantly between the three, from 738 mm to 770 mm (a difference of roughly 1.25 inch), and I'm now I'm wondering if I'm likely to encounter any issue with any of the three.
My height is about 5'8" or 5'8.5" (closer to the latter I think), and for the inseam I've measured between 31 inches and 31.75 inches (it's hard to get a consistent and exact measure). Trek's online tool says that I am indeed medium, but against I'm puzzled by how much such a variable standover height between different bikes could imply. I'm looking to buy a new bike but I pretty much have to buy it online because of the 'rona.
