also, you should save 2-color images as PNG, not JPG. although it may not be obvious at first glance, jpgs on 2 color images produce tons of artifacts, which can be seen by upping the contrast.
PNGs produce ZERO artifacts, and on a 2 color image, will actually take up significantly less space.
There is no reason not to use PNG in this case, and many reasons to not use JPG.
Generally any image with only a few colors, maybe up to 256 colors, but certainly under 16, should be saved as PNG.
