After 2.5 Billion Yen and 10 years later, the 3-car prototype of the KiHa 285 Series DMU is basically rotting in JR Hokkaido's Naebo Works as JR Hokkaido forego its production in favor of the KiHa 261-1000 Series in 2014 (after they took delivery of said prototype) due to various reasons and the attempt of converting it into an equipment monitoring train failed due to cost and technical difficulties. On the hypothetical scenario of them not physically scrap it, who could they possibly sell it to in order to recoup some of the money spent?
