there are thousands of journals showing exactly what roads they ride and how they go about it
or my personal favourite touring blog, UniverseWithMe, she has ridden just about everywhere in the world and has fantastic posts about it with lots of good photos.
Lots of tourists aren't very strong cyclists at all when they start, especially the ones from europe, so if you're into serious road riding, you'll find it easier. Those guys just suffer like crazy.
Cycle touring seems impossible but you just start doing it and then you do it and then eventually you've done it
