that's exactly what I did except for 1x. it's hilly here so I was forced to get a compact crank and a megarange freewheel, particularly for big grocery runs.
I love my setup BUT, without the spinacci extension on the bar for a forward position, I could never put down any real power, which annoyed me. with it, it's perfect. can literally do everything, including go fast when I want.

it's just a reflection of the whole "look how wacky I am, riding this unconventional bike because I'm an UNCONVENTIONAL THINKER! oh, sorry, did I just blow your mind?" *tips fedora*
the truth is, you can get an awesome double or triple butted cromo steel bike in your size on Craigslist and redo the gearing, wheels, and fitment into exactly whatever you want for far less than half the price of riv.
pic related was about $600 for everything , and the front rack alone was $120.
