1. road bikes must weigh at least 6.8kg (UCI rules)
2. most pros get 1 or 2 sizes smaller than what the manufacturer 'recommends'
smaller framesets are stiffer, lighter, shorter headtube, shorter stack, bigger drop (difference between saddle and bar height) and reach
they usually have the seat tube almost fully extended with a longer stem
a lot of riders are on 130-140mm stems on bikes/sizes that normally come with 100-120mm stems (depending on bike size)
though it's moreso for bike fit/position purposes than weight saving
if you get a bigger size, you usually end up sitting more upright, whch is not what most pros want (unless you slap on a huge stem for more reach)
if you look at caleb ewan's bike (size xs) you can see his drop isn't as big as you'd normally see on pro bikes, but he does have a 150mm stem
