Bought this Diamondback for £65 in 2019, it's from 1989, Tange frame and forks, araya wheels, Deore LX Mountain groupset, it came with original tyres and grips too, also in amazing condition, but I switched them out to preserve them for future resale, details like that make the difference between a nice old bike and a collectible one. Point is I've been using it as a commuter for about 18 months without issue, my run to work takes me down a couple of miles of road, some grassy riverside path and a gravel tow path. Bike is so comfy and fun to ride, light as hell for a steel framed bike and cost me less than a pair of new tyres plus when the time comes to sell I'll get at least 3 times my money back
Buying new bikes is a fools game.
