I'm in the process of converting a 90s Stumpjumper into a midcentury roadbike type of thing for daily use (first serious bike). I bought this deadstock Brooks knockoff (pictured) for some ridiculously low price but the saddle rails are 4mm wide instead of the regular 7mm and is not secure in the original single bolt seat rail clamp (similar to the one in the picture(. It seems I have three options:
(a) shim the rails on the saddle with electric tape or beer cans or what have you to add the extra width
(b) buy a new seat clamp (if so, are there any affordable ones that are compatible with the non-standard 4mm seat rails?)
(c) use the traditional seat clamp that came with the saddle and buy a new seatpost (maybe the type that gets narrower at the top)
The bike's seatpost appear to be aproximately 26mm and the saddle's traditional clamp appears to be made for 24mm seatposts.
Which option would be the surest and most economical? Obviously (a) would be the easiest but I am not sure if this would be safe.
