The unracer thing is a joke, please don't get badgered into downgrading your bike just because a poorfag wants to imagine he's one of those kewl unracers on a $12000 custom steel instagram bike and if he buys a bunch of overpriced waxed canvas handbags nobody will mind his swerving all over the MUP and crashing into dogs and children

For an inexperienced buyer nicer is ALWAYS better, there are no exceptions, nobody has ever been like "well I should have gotten a gas pipe BSO and I really regret getting a name brand bike made of quality components"

By the time you get to the point where you're asking "do I really need this" you're good and you won't need internet advice anyway

Buy the best bike you can afford. Actually buy the best bike you can't afford, you won't regret spending more

The lightbulb thing is for the racers who make me feel slow and poor. Just Commuters™ and Unracers™ like me don't need lighting because there's adequate lighting on the 1 km stretch of road I ride next to when I don't feel like walking. Anyone who disagrees is part of the lycra mafia. Also if you have no lights it means you have friends unlike people who "race" (this is dutch for "people who have decent equipment that doesn't suck"). I bought a Just Commuter™ folding bike which contains a proprietary $1600 folding shifty/IGH system that only works on my exact model of expensive yuppie commuter bike, which means I am totally better with money than those rich racing freds who commute on $800 diamond frame racing bikes and OEM-spec Tiagra.
