With all the stopping because of lights, and other city obstacles a fixie may be more ideal. Sometimes when I forget to downshift before a light I really curse my luck. Also I am sick of riding alone all the time and I would rather deal with fixie culture than douchebag roadie culture. Fixie riders mostly wear normal clothes, carry locks, they probably just stop to eat when they are hungry instead of "geling up", etc.
