I bought an extremely cheap road bike and one of the things that's been a perpetual source of frustration is the wheels.
>neither stayed very true for long
>tons of spokes breaking on both wheels on the slightest bump
>replaced probably a good 30 spokes, including
>completely rebuilt one of the wheels at one point, though I can't remember which one
So the stock wheels are shit, and I hate having to put so much work into them.
Now I find that the front wheel has this big dent in the rim. I tried straightening it with a pair of pliers but can't get it very flat. When I brake it makes a very annoying THUNK-THUNK-THUNK sound and shudders me to a halt in a really uncomfortable way. I'm thinking it's likely time to replace the wheel. But I haven't bought a new wheel before so I'm not sure what I should be buying.
>Should I buy a new rim and try rebuilding the wheel myself? I like DIYing stuff, but don't want to spring for a full truing stand. I really don't want to spend two hours truing it only to have it come out of true in a week and have to go through the same shit I did with the original wheel; is this something that's much better handled by a factory?
>What should I be looking for in terms of brand, price, etc?
>Can/should I be saving the bearing? Would I need any special tools to transfer it, aside from the usual allen wrenches, screwdrives, pliers?
