With investment in Germany, Alstom is developing the Coradia iLINT. Essentially, it's a branch line train which can be fueled with hydrogen when at a depot, but will serve on remote branch lines which are too expensive/uneconomical to electrify but cannot be served by a Diesel Multiple Unit since the running costs and fuel costs are too high.
They're expected to be in service by 2020.
