By the way, if you want really cheap and reliable on one side and fast and frequent and comfortable service on the other side, then I always say, that the Czech main line Prague-Ostrava is the best example worldwide, of course I might be wrong.
It connects two largest metro areas in Czechia and goes through 2 other big cities (Olomouc and Pardubice) and it also partly serves as commuter rail near Prague. Basically a backbone of Czech passanger railway, something like northeast corridor in USA. The distance is 356 km, the train goes every 30 minutes in rush hours and you can choose from 3 operators and trains of different quality and speed where the fastest travels only 3 hours which means the average speed is 118 km/hour stops included. And the best thing, the price starts at only 6 USD for adult.
I'd say the best ratio price/quality anywhere in the world.
Also some of the trains continue all the way to Košice in Slovakia, also for pretty good price.
