I got a new 7 speed cassette without realizing I need a spacer to mount it on my 8 speed hub. Sheldon says put a 4.5 mm spacer and it's good, but it got me thinking: What if I instead replace all the spacers in the cassette with slightly fatter ones, to get the correct cassete width and easier shifting (the bike has friction shifters). Do yall know if it's possible to get specialized spacers? Since the smallest sprocket has a built in spacer, I'll need to either replace only the plastic spacers (then I'll need five 4.15 mm spacers) or replace the plastic spacers and get a super thin spacer before the smallest sprocket (five 4.0 mm and one 0.75 mm spacer).
