Here is the current plan for my N Scale layout - R8 or H8.
The "L" is made up of two 4'x8' boards.
The horizontal loop (w/ embankment and yard) will be diesel/steam.
The more L-shaped loop (w/ street running) will be an electric trolley line.
Since it's N Scale, I'm more concerned with continuous running than switching.
The diamond junction and the yard are there to add a little bit of interactivity (though the latter is mostly for storage/show).
The roads aren't really drawn to scale, nor are those all of them (just the most important).
I am considering putting a single-tracked, point-to-point streetcar line down the "main street" in the middle of the city.
I may eventually put shops/yard for the trolley line somewhere in the small town section.
