Honestly for the amount of cooking I did that shit was not worth bringing, and I could've maybe done with less clothes if i shelled out for laundry more often. Definitely have wanted a dynamo for a long time but wasn't in the budget before this trip. The solar panel works okay but not as well as a dynamo and probably adds just as much weight, plus the hassle of rigging it up.

In many cases the old pre-automobile era roads for transporting goods from town to town are the ones you take cycling, as the new roads go through tunnels that aren't really pleasant to ride in. This photo was taken on Hosoo pass, where I didn't see a single car the entire time I rode it. It's an old road they used to move copper from the mining town nearby to Nikko, which is famous for its temples adorned with shitloads of copper. Unfortunately typhoons had thrown branches and leaves all over it so I pinch flatted twice descending it, before I smartened up and started running a higher pressure
