It's the same with any niche market and/or captive audience. Same reason why extremely advanced science/math books (or even college textbooks) can cost hundreds of dollars even though physically they're no higher quality or difficult to make than any other hardcover book. The publisher needs to make it worth their while, and it isn't like you're going to NOT buy the book, is it?
