However, I am sad to see so few cyclists these days understand just how comfortable pic related is. A slack-wheelbase bike with handlebars close to the body and a heavily sprung leather saddle of the hammock class. It is so comfortable that even soldiers in full kit could ride it. Soldiers in kit should be the standard for bike comfort. If a soldier in kit cannot ride comfortably on a bike in uniform it means the bike in itself cannot be comfortable to civilians for any decent units of time measured on the metric scale. If that is not a good standard for measuring comfort, I don't know what is.
One thing I would still like to see changed is the velocipest awareness of crank-arm length. Most people still ride on 170 millimeter crank arms and this is simply too large for the majority. Since I swapped to 152 mm all my knee problems removed and cycling has become so much more comfortable and enjoyable.
