Underground tunnels, overpasses, bridges, etc. Such as in the Netherlands, where cyclists pretty much have their own road network entirely for themselves. It costs more money of course but depending on where you live there's probably a shamefully small amount of money being spent on infrastructure anyway. My girlfriend lives in Ghent, Belgium. A city designed with a road netowrk to be intentionally confusing and difficult to nvaigate for cars. And because they don't have bike paths the way we do here in the superior Dutch speaking country, cyclists have to use the road. And that road was made shit on purpose. So now everyone is worse off. Public transit is better there, but the problem persists, if you don't want to use public transit and would rather cycle, you're kinda fucked. Everyone except tram riders are. Even walking sucks there because the sidewalks are really narrow. Trucks for instance are an inevitability, and they use the roads too.
