picrel is a carbon brake booster, and for me this is where carbon fills a niche, in places where failure will not be catastrophic, to lighten and strengthen in places that are not bearing the brunt of the forces being exerted.
Frames, forks, bars, stems, seatposts and crank arms should not be made of carbon, especially on a bike that is intended for repeated use on the roads or trails. It's a wonderful material but it has the potential to fail and if that happens amid traffic on a load bearing part of a bike we are talking about death and paralysis.
If pro riders want to put their lives on the line for a few thousandths of a second then sure, it's their funeral and they are being paid to take risks, but on the roads cyclists have a responsibility not only to themselves but to others. Carbon fibre does suffer from fatigue, imperfections and damage, what can appear to be a structurally perfect piece of carbon might be concealing a disaster waiting to happen.
Don't be a carbontard, just don't, resist the hype and marketing and use your brain, if you have one. Leave it for the pros and the consoomertards.
