What is the proper lane position to take when making a turn across traffic (e.g. left in burgerland, right in bingbong)
1) middle of the lane so cars behind will need to stop
2) inside of the lane towards the center of the road so cars can pass you on the slow side -- but this also puts you closer to oncoming traffic
I hate being on the road and try to stick to bike paths when possible, but I have a couple unavoidable roads that I need to be on and there are things about both of these options that make me nervous.
With (1) I'm concerned that cars behind me won't stop or they'll get pissed off and honk or try and ram me.
With (2) I get a little nervous sitting there with my arm out signalling a turn as oncoming traffic comes too close for comfort. Also somewhat concerned about cars passing from behind on the slow side -- what if they don't move far enough over and clip my handlebars or worse.
