>>1768060This is bullshit. Upright bikes are the most common type of bicycle in the Netherlands, despite half the country being paved with bricks for traffic calming purposes. Drain covers, potholes, tram tracks, tourists... there are bumps all over the place. It's really no big deal because the tires and saddle absorb a lot of the impact. I own both an upright city bike and a racing bike and the upright is much better at absorbing bumps, unlike the racing bike which rattles my brain on brick paved roads.
That being said, this is a shill thread and the comfort of upright bikes is only really applicable if the city is relatively flat and has decent cycling infrastructure so you can ride calmly without fearing for your life. They're good for cruising short distances over flat terrain without breaking a sweat, but they're also heavy and clunky.
