>>1214899>since Shimano no longer sells road triple STIs.They do, at 9spd, Sora r3030 which is new ergonomics and under tape routing and hollowtech and the rd has the same pull as mtb rds so you can run wide cassettes with a cheap 9spd shadow alivio mech, but the crank is 50-39-30 which is really not ideal for touring and i don't think you can change the granny either. But that is definitely not worse than a subcompact double and you have a triple FD and triple STI so maybe you could make an earlier road triple with a small granny work with it.
R3030 is really not a bad option and I think some touring-esque bikes are specced with it, like the awol.
real talk though, friction shifting is better for triples.
