>>1467502This is from Arthurs Pass, heading West. It's actually not as high as Porter's pass, further to the East. The ride is really cool, it's a long false-flat from Christchurch, then slowly kicks up to >10% when it finally climbs Porter's pass at almost 1000m. The road stays at elevation with rolling terrain for a while, then theres an easy climb to Arthur's pass.
The descent on the other hand is scary and I'm really glad I didn't climb up this way on my fully loaded touring bike. You know it's gonna be fun when one of the lookouts is called Death's Corner.
