That used to be a thing but not today when Schwalbe will sell you a brand new specialized winter tire with studs for 22 dollary-doos. By the time you get a good summer tire (and it has to be a good tire), buy the screws and tape and stuff, add the value of your time (even at sub-minimum wage), and a few inevitable flats, you’re just not coming out ahead here no matter how poor you are. Even then the compound and pattern won’t be as good as the factories engineered product. Studded winter tire is a great idea though!
