Whays wrong with hiking your bike on smooth fire road? Its how I cool down/ take breaks, steep climbs or not.
Its the everyone has to be as fast as possible mentality in cycling is what kills it for me
Worst encounter I've had was with a group of racers on a popular trail. No one said anything first guy was inches to the side of my rear tire on a rough and wet rocky section coming up to stream crossing. I keep going and do not yield cuz its a risky area. He gets more aggressive I turn into him and nearly collide and see hes way closer than I thought. He's like WHOA WHOA! Finally overtakes me right before the stream. After the stream the other guys pass, as I took a bad line cuz of the incident.
Other bad time was on paved section near a dam, riding around a lake and campground. There were ~7-8 of us chatting, taking up about 3/4 of the 2 lanes. A roadie comes up, no bell, silent cassette, gets closer and yells ON YERRR LEFT COMING THROUGHGHGHFG and that moment a friends GF served caused she didnt see/hear him til he screaned, he was a screech his brakes, and just was mumbling shit and foaming at the mouth, shaking his head all pissed off. Sorry dentist fred, your strava segment for being 3 seconds slower now
I like riding my local trails in solitude with the odd bum or kid on a dirt bike or atv.
