>inb4 people disagree>>1006980>>1006996All-mountain bikes, also known as enduro bikes, fit the gap between "trail bikes" and downhill bikes. Basically, mountain bikes have a spectrum:
Cross country hardtail -> cross country full suspension -> trail -> all mountain aka enduro -> downhill (regular/race) -> downhill (freeride)
Going left to ride, they get more and more suspension, slacker and slacker geometry, heavier, worse at climbing, better at descending
So basically AM/enduro bikes are designed to be able to ride literally anything, but with some emphasis on charging hard on technical/gnarly descents. Though not as heavy as a true dh bike, and different gearing than a true dh bike, allows them to climb, they just climb slowly.
