That's the role of public transportation (light rail, subways, streetcars, buses, etc): so the poor (aka 'the working class') has some form of motorized transportation. People who are not poor can afford their own personal transportation. People are not all 'equal', never have been, never will be, and the gaps between 'poor' and 'not poor' is getting wider again. Get used to it. If you're using public transportation all the time because you can't afford a car, you're poor, plain and simple.
