Realistically public transportation is the most efficient method.
Less congestion, safer and if you factor in bullet trains, faster than any car you personally own and faster than you could drive your fantasy car, given that most people don't have a closed course to themselves.
Bikes are better in the sense of efficiency for urban commuting and public health/safety.
Did you know there are people who get out of breath from walking to their car?
