You can't develop your full power riding one.
You can't sprint on one.
They're heavier and more expensive.
Really they ought to be banned from public roads, they're a safety hazard for both riders and the general public.
Really, if you're going to be a pussy and not ride a normal bike you may as well go all the way and get a three-wheeler. At least you can stop quickly on one -- even though you can't go fast on them. But someone who wants to ride something as stupid as a recumbent isn't interested in 'fast' anyway so that doesn't matter.
Or maybe you should just give up and take the bus.
